(1)may 與 might
—May/might I swim here?
—Yes, please. / Yes, you can. /Certainly.
—No, you can’t /mustn’t. It’s too dangerous.
(2)can與could
兩者都表示“可以”,使用過去式時,無時態(tài)差別,只是更禮貌些。例如:
Can/Could I sit here?

(1)should /ought to have done與shouldn’t/ought not to have done表示“本應(yīng)該做而未做”與“本不應(yīng)該做而做了”
She should/ought to have attended your party, but she had to look after her mother. 她本應(yīng)該參加你的聚會,但是她必須照顧她的媽媽。
②needn’t have done表示“本來不必做某事而實際上做了”
You needn’t have left so early. It’s 6 o’clock. 你本不必這么早就離開,才六點。
③could have done表示“本來可以做而實際上未能做”
He could have passed the exam, but he was too lazy. 他本能夠通過考試,但是他太懶了。
④may / might have done表示“本可能做而實際上未做”
She might have achieved success, if she had tried her best. 如果她全力以赴的話,她本有可能取得成功的。
